Trillium
Inspired by its namesake, Trillium is a sculpture of glass and metal — three petals folded around a single axis. As the form unfolds, it transitions seamlessly from anodized aluminum to printed glass.
The glass meets CNC milled aluminum. The sculptural form passes across the joint, marrying the two materials. The design has to bring together two materials fabricated through entirely different means — the glass printed, the aluminum milled — and still hold them as one. Careful measurement, modeling, and scanning of each finished print shifts the CAD for the cap and aluminum to match the specific physical contours of the glass.
Printed on G3DP2 — the molten-glass platform Lios carried forward from the MIT research machines and ran in the studio.
